Love

If the love I have isn't working,
what good is money?

Without this understanding, we often defer the risk to love: I need to establish myself before I can get involved. I need nice clothes first. We also defer love once it is before us, under the guise of safeguarding our future: I won't call long distance now, because I'll need the money when I retire. I won't meet them at this concert now, because I'll need money for a new car in six years. I can't afford to enter counseling with my partner because we need storm windows. Certainly, we have to balance and make choices, but with no love in the house, there is no need for storm windows.

I find myself in the very real realisation of the direct opposite of this. Being half of what's being called a Bination couple, a greater part of my financial commitment is in travelling overseas in order to be able to spend time with the one I love.

Mir has on several occasions asked that I don't do this, especial now, when money is tight before our jobs are uncertain... but truly, neither of us want me to do that... we'd rather spend the money on the flight that brings us together and eat... say... peanut butter sandwiches for two weeks because it's all we could afford, because it means that we have the chance to spend those two weeks together, in love.

It's a choice, a conscious choice - and it's one I would make over and over again... happily... and question the connection to soul of those who might consider that to be irresponsible.

That might seem harsh, if it does, so be it. I'll leave you with the the thought in that text that encapsulates the Love above all.

I am now forced to ask, Beyond rent and health insurance, for what are we saving? If the love we have is not brought to life out here in the world, we risk saving for a future that may never come or that, in fact, may find us just ghosts of spirit, unable to live it because we've squandered our chances to love along the way.

Power

From The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have.

Originally, the word power meant able to be.
In time, it was contracted to mean to be able.
We suffer the difference.

I can't be certain, but I'm fairly sure the wish here was for worldly power, for more control. This is commonplace and disturbing as the wish for more always issues from a sense of lack. So the wish for more power really issues from a sense of powerlessness.

I think it's also symptomatic of a society in which so much personal power has been taken from us... sometimes in the name of medical science... sometimes in the name of politics and religion... and though I hate to say it, those two are seldom far from each other.

It's the difference between 'power over' and 'power with/power within' A difference between submitting to government and the self governance that used to exist within many, so called primative societies.

In this respect, if in no other, the 'developing world' has things much better than the 'developped world' at least on a spiritual basis, because there is nothing more soul destroying than knowing that you have no recourse to your own spiritual governance.

...one reason I have such trouble with 'organised religion.'

I could go on at great length of this subject, and may return to it at some point, but for now I fear the 'soap box' might rear its ugly head, (as if it hadn't already, right?), and that's not what this is about.

CONVOCATION

My word today is convocation, which is actually a bit of a cheat. Why? Well, for those of you that are interested or would like to go and see it, I made the banner for the next story in my SGA series today, and have uploaded it to the website. The title is of course Convocation If you'd like to see the banner, well either go to the website, or... well, here it is:

There are also Brownie points for anyone that can tell me the origin of the tagline in the bottom right of the image. Also, for those M/T shippers amongst you, the central image of the banner, (the hug between Michael and Teyla without the sunburst over it) is available, if you speak nicely to me - or maybe even offer a decent bribe, as an image all by itself. :) I know. I'm shameless, what can I say?
