we can always give voice to our pain and hope, to the slim, ongoing fact of our being alive.

Actually the last time I sang - and by that I mean sang with any kind of intent or out of any kind of pain was Friday just gone.

There's a story that goes along with that too... There's a pagan/new age musician called Carolyn Hillyer and I have, or have heard several of her CDs. Many of them are life journeys, or life-myths told in music, drumming and chanting... awesomely powerful. I like her music a lot.

When our family learned about Grandad's passing, it was my brother's birthday, and no one wanted to spoil that for him, so we waited to say anything, but I had wanted to post something - a moment of recognition, that moment when you bow your head symbolically and say farewell. There was a particular song of hers that I was looking for to post. I thought that it would be on youtube - but alas, it is not.

So instead, I sang it - and that had to be enough... and in singing it, I felt it... and feel it still. There /is/ a sample on the website, but you have to download it and its RM, which I don't like... but yeah.

It's amazing how important music is at a time like this.. which makes me wonder why, when someone (person or animal) passes I always turn the music /off/. I think it was the exception for Dad... when The Inner Light Suite was all that I could hear for days and days, until they played it at the funeral at my insisting. I understand how you feel, needing to hear that... I do.
