View From My Doorstep
Feb. 5th, 2009 10:03 amWell okay, one is from my doorstep, the other is from the top of the driveway looking down my street...
Hopefully you'll forgive the fact that I've blurred my licence plate... not that I'm paranoid or anything but...
Anyway, yeah - to those of you used to snow, it might not look much, but... we haven't had snow like this in a loooong time.

Date: 2009-02-05 10:34 am (UTC)At our school, our premises officer had cleared all paths, and salted them and everything, but /parents/ (rightly in my opinion), opted not to expose their children to the risks of taking falls and worse trying to get there.
Personally, as I said to my mum this morning, if they want to take a day's pay from me for not going to sit in an empty classroom to do my planning when I could just as easily do planning and marking right here where I am, let them. I'd rather know that I, and more importantly the children I teach are /safe/ than pay the tax on a day's wage... I'd probably come out with about the same due to the lack of that tax anyway, so it would make little difference to me.
I know I'm probably preaching to the choir, but comments like those made by county hall really make me cross. GO UNIONS!
Thanks for that, Dave :)

Date: 2009-02-05 10:40 am (UTC)A-men... To be honest I think we all really need the unions right now (with the recession etc), and it's good to see the teaching unions being vocal here.
It's a shame more people through-out the education system don't share your attitude though. I'm sure the major proportion of teachers do (otherwise they wouldn't /be/ teachers) but it seems beyond that, as soon as people hit the management side of it, they get their heads sucked up their rears or their hands tied by red-tape by others above them :S

Date: 2009-02-05 10:55 am (UTC)As for the people at the LEA and outide of Education altogether - children? What are they? Oh wait, they're the mindless little robots that we have to cram full of facts, turn into mini-clones so that they can all "do what they're supposta" and get Level 4 or above at age 11.
/cynical rant
/Technically/ what teachers are supposed to do (apparently) is to report in to work at the nearest local school, but I can see that causing all manner of administrative nightmares. For instance, I work for a City Council school, but because of where I live, my nearest local Primary School is a County School. My CRB (police check form) is not valid in County Schools, because it wasn't ordered by them... so I can't /teach/ in a County School. It's probably just the same the other way around. Then there are the payroll issues and just... urgh!
So... there's that to take into consideration too.

Date: 2009-02-05 10:39 am (UTC)Didn't hear no budgie or nothing. I'm waking them up myself. Mom slept at grandma's, so I guess she's the catalyst to getting them awake in the morning. *Grumbles*

He was nice. I didn't know him well, but still...

It's penicillin, and gran is allergic to it, and mom doesn't like it either. Dad's sis is allergic too... Hmm. Should I look for rash tomorrow?

Date: 2009-02-06 03:41 am (UTC)I've been kind of silent... again. But I had a relapse of my cold, which is now transformed into a full blown, seven-day old congestion, cough, death rattle, dizziness, no appetite, high fever...
I guess I'll see the doctor tomorrow. Blah... this would be only the second time in my life I'm going to the doctor for a cold/flu.
