Drama abounds...

Not only is it European Languages Day today... which meant that all normal lessons were suspended in favour of activities to do with languages other than English, but...

Lunchtime came around, about 12.30pm as a matter of fact and someone spotted the school had a gas leak. Of course because of this we had to evacuate the school... or course also because of the gas leak we couldn't use anything that might have caused a spark like - say - the fire/evacuation safety bell. We teachers had to walk around the school, calling "Everybody Out please!" and then line them all up on the yard, just like in a fire drill.

It's worrying how many children get frightened thinking the school is on fire, or about to blow up or something... they kept asking, "Is this real?" Anyway, about two minutes after the call to the Fire Service, they arrived with sirens and lights flashing, checked out the building, turned off the gas at the mains and turned out all the boilers and so on. We were eventually allowed back into the building to continue our day, but not until about 1.45pm. The gas suppliers turned up about 30 minutes later to fix the problem. They were still at it when I made a quick getaway at 3.30pm. (POETS day and I POE'd).

At least it was sunny and reasonably warm today.

The painting was going on all day, it was just at the end of the day when the child dropped paint all over me that was the problem.
