So the school began its Energy Week today. A week of lessons devoted to environmental issues, energy saving, water conservations, global warming and climate change, that kind of thing. It was encouraging to discover how much they already knew, and what good little conservators some of them already are. :)

ImageNow if we can just get more food companies to package in more materials that can be recycled, do away with most frozen dinners all together... and have a convenient place to burn pet shavings instead of adding it to the dump.

You know a newspaper thrown into the trash in the early 1900s is still just as readable now as it was back then? There are archaeologists who dig up dump sites to learn history of trash who have discovered this. They were amazed because it was supposed to decompose. Why didn't it? Because there's too much junk done away with in a way that doesn't allow it.

I was not amazed at anything other than the fact that it hadn't been used as starter fuel for someone's chimney fire.

That surprises me too. I would have thought back then, anything to make the kindling catch would have been long since burned.
