Title: Chain of Command
Rating: R (mature readers)
Spoilers: Set after The Last Man so spoilers for S1-4 and the beginning of S5.
Summary: When the IOA replaces Carter as the head of the Atlantis Expedition, and the first thing that happens is the alienation of long standing allies, in spite of Sheppard's best efforts, trouble can't be far behind. Woolsey's command is given a baptism of fire when the Alpha team is ambushed off world, and hampered by a lack of intel they truly are on their own.
Disclaimer: MGM own Stargate: Atlantis. This story is for entertainment purposes only and no revenue is being made from copyright material. No infrigement intended.

Episode 1 (Harm's Way) and Act One of Episode 2 (Chain of Command) available here.

Personal Notes: Mostly a general story, but heavy references to Michael and Teyla scattered through the episode. Can't say much more without giving too much away :)

So sweet of Sam to risk getting a kick from the I.O.A. to protect Major Lorne like that! But the secret won’t stay one forever, so I expect Woolsey to be pissed, soon. Since he can’t directly reprimand Sam, will it be on Sheppard’s head?

***

I don’t like Woolsey’s threat: ("For how much longer is the question though, isn't it Colonel?"). It would be foolish to get rid of a good soldier who’s that experienced with the PG as he is.

Todd can have him. ^^

***

Good one, Halling, for speaking up to Woolsey. Hopefully that’ll make him pull his head out of his ass. You can’t just let lose some menaces on the galaxy, and then with a change of commandership burry your head in the sand. I hope he’ll understand that the Wraith, nor Michael, will be standing still while he’s making sure ‘the base’ is all right.

***

No idea what you’re working towards, with that second story in there. Some questions/remarks/silly thoughts, though:

Those people the Haradia brought in, are they just people from another planet, put there to have a bit more of variety in the human DNA present in that village? Or to make sure people become of mixed/tainted blood?

Is the ‘Haradia’ a local word for ‘Wraith’? Or are they just a totally different alien species? Or humanoid-ish? Or just humans who like to dress up in a fancy way?

With the events and questions raised in The Seed, my strange mind even came up with a ‘that girl’s being picked to turn into a Wraith boat’? Then maybe the Hag is a very ancient Keeper? :D

She waves a box in front of the girls, and checks them for strength in their arms, and in their jaws (unless it’s beauty she’s looking for, in there)? What could possibly be the need for that? As, according to the villagers, she’ll be ‘tortured very badly’. Unless she’s not, of course. ;)

Is the Hag a very old worshipper that is sent out to collect some new ones? (The Wraith would have done a lousy job fixing her up, then…)

Will we be following what’ll happen to the girl? And the other villagers? Or just the boy, and the person he met?

Does that planet they’re on ever get culled by the Wraith? Or are they immune to the feeding? Or maybe the Hive that’s in control of the planet has special plans for it?

***

The boy said that ‘an angel’ approached him. Does that mean ‘someone who came from the sky’? Or did that person just look angelic? Or does he say that it’s an ‘angel’ because he offered help with the Haradia?

Isn’t ‘Michael’ the name of a fallen angel? I haven’t got a clue if Michael’s been told the story, or not.

And since we’re on that subject: you’ve said before that there’ll probably be 10 stories with Michael/Teyla in it, but I forgot to ask if that’s the same for the ones that Michael alone is in? Meaning: will he be featured in more than 10, or not? He could always make an appearance in other eps…

(Or like you stated when you posted it to the community: references to them or him in a story.)

Is it that angel’s wish to feed the rebellion on that planet, to have them pick him instead of being slaves to those Haradia (possible Wraith)? The boy said that nothing was asked in return, but when do things ever happen like that?

Is the angel Michael? Then I don’t get that the kid wasn’t spooked by his appearance? Unless he’s making himself some cocktails and changes back to being a human for some of his jobs… Well, he most certainly was cute as a human!

Or it could be someone totally different, one of Michael’s lackeys.

Or any other person, I guess? If I don’t stop now, I’ll have covered everything pretty soon! *g*

***

Well, episode 2 has been started, and what a start it was! If Woolsey doesn’t lighten up, there’ll be nothing left to save in the galaxy, and while they’re sitting around doing nothing, someone else has less than noble plans with some funky people.

I’m very curious as to what your next chapter will contain. It’s bound to be good! Have you by any chance started yet? Or is it planned out? :P

Either way, keep up the excellent work, and I hope your update will inspire some other people to work on or update their stories as well. It’s been a very quiet summer so far!

Woolsey won't be pleased when he finds out about Lorne, no, but... What can he do about it... which you'll understand a little bit better when you see the next part. Sometimes, 'Just following order...' can be a great defense.

Mostly Woolsey's just... all mouth and trousers... don't worry too much... but then again maybe worry a lot. He's made a big mistake with the Athosians, and I don't think he realises just quite how bad the threat level is, that he's operating under.

However... in some respects, maybe he's right... but you'll have to wait a while to find that one out.

Haradia

That's the name the 'local people' give to their oppressors, since they come from a place called Haradia, they are Haradians. You'll find out more about them in the rest of Chain of Command. They do have a specific reason for bringing the people from other planets to join with Lisstha's people, but I can't give too much away by saying what that might be. :)

Hmmm, Lisstha's not going to be turned into a Wraith ship, no... though it's an interesting thought. But she does have a specific use. The question becomes, will she live to serve her purpose - or any purpose. *evil grin*

As far as the Hag is concerned... she's older even than she looks, is all I'll say. The Wraith questions you ask about the people of that planet will be answered later in Chain of Command.

The person that came to speak to Miran reminded the boy of the descriptions his people have of their 'angelic' beings, therefore he assumed he was an angel. It had little to do with what the 'angel' said of himself, or that he offered help. It's purely Miran's perception.

Michael is the name of a fallen angel, yes, though I doubt that anyone would have told him the story. The only one that really had any kind of time for him was Teyla, and that's not something she herself would have known. It's a Milky-way-Human mythology/reference. Pretty much like the idea of the 'Hail Mary.'

Since the stories are evolving, I don't really know how I can answer the question of how many each of them will be in right now. Initially the plan was that Michael and Teyla would be the central story of 10 of the 'episodes.' That may well change by the time I get them all written of course.

That's all I'm going to say about the angel for now, or I'll be giving things away. On the subject of being spooked though, remember, the perception of one man or woman might not be the same as someone from elsewhere... and what they expect to see might well be different too.
