The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have.Live deep enough
and there is only one direction.
"We are all just small stones and little flowers searching for our sun. What you have been under words, behind many eyes and beneath all cries is the one direction."
-Meditate on one recent moment of lightheartedness you have felt. Breathe deeply and smile
- Now meditate on one recent moment of lightheartedness you witnessed in a love one or friend.
- Continue your deep breathing and let these two moments find their sameness.
-Focus on this lightness of heart as you would a sun out of view, and feel the one direction. It was like a summer's day - breezy, but warm all the same. We were early, but the walk was beautiful, up along Franklin Street. I wasn't sure what to expect, but that didn't matter, I wanted to be there with her, was so very happy to be sharing that time with Mir... the sun, the wind - the beautiful meal (with delicious orange juice)... There was the walk back and the store, where she rolled her eyes at me when I asked for gummy bears... I like gummy bears, what's wrong in that. Every moment piling on the special in even the most mundane things. Did she see me laughing inside when my heels sank into the grass at the arbouretum? One of the most special moments, sharing that one place, that one view that was special to her and her father... their picnic spot. Remembering, as we walked past the Old Well, telling my mother it was a 'landmark' and mum saying, "Well I better get a picture then," but not interrupting because I loved to listen to Mir telling me about all the movies that use this area of Chapel Hill, and how they covered it in leaves on the trees when they filmed
Patch Adams there... all the moments rolled into one, it was hard to pick just one moment. Forgive me being greedy :)
We reached Memorial Hall and took our places. Our seats - well the ones we chose, since it was unassigned seating - were on the stage. Over and over again, she said that she never thought she'd ever see things from this side... talked about how her sister was often on the stage at her dance recitals, but that she never thought she'd see things from this side and kept looking around, taking in the sights. It felt like it was special for her, not just through her words, but from the excitement I felt from her as well... the warmth of her happiness warmed me.
The warmth of her happiness warmed me...
The warmth of her happiness... our happiness.
