but I never got around to it.
Yesterday my father turned 60. He is now officially able to draw his old age pension, scary thought. Anyway, we all went out for a wonderful meal for him... to celebrate his birthday. The hotel was a nice one, there were 14 of us in all, the family and the band with their wives/girlfriends. I haven't seen these guys in a long time, because I haven't been to see my dad play in a while. Maybe one time if Mir comes over and he's playing while she's hear I'll take her with me to see them play. There was much joking and laughter and things and my brother ended up playing 'get the frog in the teacup' after the meal because someone had got one of those little plastic frogs that flips when you press it at the back from inside their cracker. (There were Christmas crackers on the table).
The greatest laughter came when Pete (the singer) regailed us all with tails of the time that Dad's dentures flew out while he was playing - and they literally had to stop the song because Pete was laughing so much he couldn't sing.
Dad had no idea that everyone would be there - he didn't even know we were going out until the day before, and then when we got to the hotel he was surprised, but happy. It was a good time and dad had lots of fun, which is what counts.
So Happy Birthday Daddy.
