They are very unpredictable about these things. Last year when I was stranded by weather and re-booked, within the US fortunately, the first (outbound) flight they offered me was three days later -- after my return flight! Eventually they re-booked me with extra connections, which made my schedule possible (if difficult). Wish I remembered what airline that was, because they were at least nicer about it than what you had to deal with. :/
