New school today that I'd never been to before. I spent some part of last night researching how to get there, and discovered that I would have to get the bus before the one I usually take to the city to arrive at the school on time. So... I dashed around like a mad crazy thing this morning, managed to get out of the house on time, and to the bus stop... and there I waited... and I waited... and I waited...

Eventually the bus arrived, at around the usual time... at which point I'm /convinced/ that I'm not going to be able to make the connection in the city to reach the school by 8:30am. As it happens, I did. I met the teacher whose class I was covering and she gave me all the work for them to do (awesome!) and then the day started. Kids arrived, did the register and sent them off to assembly... which went over by about 15 minutes, so I didn't actually start teaching until near on 10am. Morning went smoothly, nice little school in spite of it's area. You know, every city has one or two areas where most sane folk suck in their teeth and go, 'you don't wanna go there' this was one of those areas. Anyway, Playtime comes, no problems, then it's up to the computer suite to let them use the computers for an hour - 'playing' web games about Ancient Egypt (their topic). Lunchtime, went for a walk, came back, marked the morning's work, ate, and then prepared for the math(s) lesson in the afternoon. Okay, maths was a tough hour. When kids don't know their tables, and can't apply that knowledge even when they do... it takes some hand holding... but the bright spot on the horizon was that after maths it's PE, which is being taught by a specialist. All I have to do is /be/ there, which I duly was, watching the kids practise netball skills, (and looking over their maths work). Home time! I actually got out of the place by 3:30pm and home inside of an hour.

Being home by 4:30pm is a real novelty these days... what with roadworks and being here there and everywhere.

Tomorrow is 'Children in Need' and most schools do crazy things to raise money for the charity. Don't mind the raising money for charity part, but the crazy school days I can do without.
