cedar_grove: (day)
...You really don't need to treat us like Sh*t.

In spite of the icon, and the beginning of the mail, today wasn't /all/ that bed, just a few little niggles - like having to drive in conditions where your car was just as likely to go sideways as forwards.

So first the SLT (senior leadership team - the Head Teacher and two Assistant Head Teachers), inform us that there's no PPA this week. We'd had 2 days of it, they said, while school was closed... and that this meant that the people were supposed to 'be with Jason, need to be with Jason.' Jason is this guy that comes in twice a week to teach PE to kids for an hour each class. He's qualified to have them on his own and doesn't /need/ a teacher with him. So... what the hell do they think I'm going to do, because I'm /not/ joining in with the games, it's not safe for me to do that. So yeah, okay, sit at the side for an hour doing nothing. A real productive use of my time - not.

Okay so at 9am, I had 4 kids. by 9:15am I had 7... LOL See it was too dangerous even to /walk/ on the pavement, so no one was bringing their kids. I ended up by 9:40am with 12 kids... and that was as good as it got all day. It did mean that we had a really laid back kind of free flow kind of day, which was good, and the colleage who's been causing me stress pretty much stayed out of my way, so all was good.

Then in the afternoon, we got handed a small piece of paper, on which is said in big letters, "Despite weather warnings we are intending to open tomorrow. Please make every reasonable effort to be in tomorrow. Thanks SLT."

It's supposed to start snowing at midnight, and it's supposed to snow like it did on Monday. Now I wonder if anyone can tell me what constitutes a 'reasonable effort.' I'm not comfortable with driving in snow like we had on Monday. Yes, I could take the bus, but it would take me 4 times as long to get to school in the morning, and as I said before, the pavements are not safe to walk on, because they /never/ get salted, and unlike the Inuits, I don't have snowshoes, or chains for my shoes, which leaves me no choice except driving.

I know, I know, it sounds like I'm moaning... I'm not, I'm worried and scared. We'll all struggle in, some of the staff coming as far as 14miles or so... and then if only one or two kids show up, what's the point?

What I /am/ moaning about is the attitude of the SLT. We were given this note, actually it was slapped down on my desk in front of me by one of the SLT with no explanation or anything, as though it had been my fault for the closure the last two days. (Other members of staff have said they felt this way too). I understand the SLT is under a lot of pressure and everything but, for gods sakes treat us like adults why don't you?

So, I'm just sitting here... waiting to see if it starts snowing before I go to bed...
