A Process in Writing...
For today's entry, I decided I would start a series of journal entries the describe just what goes into writing a mammoth project like writing a series of fan fic - at least for me... and since I'm still close to the beginning of this mammoth project, and there are folk out there that are kindly reading it, I would take the time to go through the process.
So... if you're not too scared to take a look inside my 'Writer's Mind' check under the cut. Oh, and just so you know... I've tried to keep spoilers to a minimum.
It all began with the snippet of an image - a scene. I have included it here because I seriously doubt it will find its way, in this incarnation into the season.
She heard the footsteps - recognised the presence of a limp and couldn't help but sigh, a little tearfully. She felt the familiar pressure of his mind against hers, amid the sounds of movement.
"Michael--" she began.
"Don't...turn around." The command was soft, but a command none the less.
From that small scene, that haunted me for quite some time, came the outline of a story, and a provisional title, which actually remains as is, to date (which is rare for me).

The word, Somehow was the first word of that outline... and the note I wrote to myself later told me that I had to figure out the /how/ of that... and it was in figuring out the 'how' that the idea for writing a whole season of stories.
Then I had to figure out the what/how/when of a 20 story season... and how many I could get away with being 'arc' stories... in other words, stories with follow the whole Michael/Teyla storyline from SGA.

As you can see from the partial image above - and yeah, it's deliberate that you can're really read it - you can see the two possibilities for placement of the arc stories... leaving gaps in between. So obviously the next step was to fill in those gaps.
You may find it hard to believe, but I started with just titles. I did this by first naming the arc stories, (with the aid of the OED), and then filling in the blanks that were not specifically Michael/Teyla related.
Coming Tomorrow... see how the titles became brief outlines for 20 stories...

You know, I can *almost* read that.
So story 9 is 'baby back'?
But I might have already poked that out of you! *g*
Spikey
